When did you first learn to ride?

When I was young my sister and I were given a choice between trampolining and horse riding lessons, and we chose horse riding - it went from there. I had ponies on loan before getting my first pony.

What was your first pony like?

He was a 14.2 hh palomino called Golden Harvest.

What was your first win?

Being quite a late starter and in the early days struggled with the dressage even more than I do now, my first win in BE competition was not until 2000 - then I had 4 all at once although by 2000 I had been on a young rider team and finished third at Bramham and had 2 horses qualified for Badminton!!!

What has been your biggest achievement so far?

Jumping round Badminton was a dream come true for me, it was so fantastic hearing everyone cheer, especially with it being so close to home.

Who do you most admire in Eventing?

Chris King has had a fantastic year, and Francis Whittington. In Eventing all riders can look across at each other, to give support, and to help raise the standard. Each rider has different qualities and we can all learn something from each other.

What is the best thing about Eventing?

It is wonderful to spend your life doing something you love doing.

What makes a top event horse?

A top event horse has to have a big heart. They need to have big expressive movement, a bold careful jump and the ability to gallop.  But most importantly, they have to want to! A horse that wants to can be trained and produced to go a long way!

What are your other interests?

I enjoy playing squash and go skiing in the winter.

What are your favourite Puffa products?

The Hintleshams are fantastic in the rain, as they really keep you dry, and the polo shirts are great to teach in. You can easily layer them up if the weather changes.

What are your top tips for other riders?

Remember that horses are not machines, and enjoy it when it is going well.

Who are your top horses?

My top horse is Calibre, he came 10th at Blair and went clear at Badminton last year. He has a huge heart, he never says no. Alcatraz has just had a really good season, and Rocket Science is aimed at 3* events next year.

What are your future ambitions?

To win Badminton, and the 2012 Olympics! To represent your country would be incredible and to do well once you are on the team.
